Masters Training Program

Registration for this program will be opening on August 22, 2024 at 12pm

​​

​​​

This Program is designed for competitive Masters athletes (30+ years) who want to improve their ski technique, increase speed and efficiency, and train for ski races. Participants are expected to be self-motivated and have an interest in training with other Masters athletes in a fun social group setting. All participants should be comfortable skiing all techniques in both classic and skate, athletes should also be able to ski all trails at Whitehorse Nordic Centre.

Objectives for this program are:​​

​​

  • Build athletes to new levels of fitness.​

  • Build power and injury resilience.

  • Improve technical skiing ability.

  • Work on race strategy

  • Learn about fueling to improve race day results and recovery.

OPTION 1: A full season training option

​​​

- Dryland (starting on September 17th, 2024)

  • 1 session a week bike or run with your coach (Tuesday 5.15pm to 7.15pm) OR on your own

  • A Gym workout session according to a plan made for you by your coach (on your own)

​

- On Snow (as soon as skiing is possible and safe until early April 2025)

  • 1 Group ski with your coach (Monday 5.15pm to 7.15pm)

  • An intensity ski session with plan (on your own)

  • A Gym workout session according to a plan made for you by your coach (on your own)

2 weeks break over Christmas and Spring break.​

​

Full Season training program with 30 admissions to the Canada Games Centre

  • ​Adult : $560​

  • Senior (60+): $525

​

Full Season training program only (if you have your own gym access)

  • Adult: $380

  • Senior (60+): $380

WNC Season Pass/Day Pass is required and not included in these prices​​

Option 2: 8 weeks program

 

Join the full season masters skiers on Mondays only!

​

On snow (November 25th, 2024 to January 27th, 2025 OR February 3rd to April7th, 2025)

  • 1 Group ski with your coach (Monday 5.15pm to 7.15pm)

​

2 weeks break over Christmas and Spring Break.

​​

8 weeks program

  • $170

WNC Season Pass/Day pass is required and not included in these prices​​​

Program registration is non-transferable and program fees are not refundable except in cases of injury or illness, in which case there will be a $20 administration fee and a prorated refund based on remaining time left in the program from the time the injury/illness is reported. A doctor's note must accompany requests for refunds for injury or illness.

​

As a first year we will be capping registrations at 15 in Option 1 and 10 in Option 2. Each programs will have 4 spots reserved for person identifying as women. We will have these spots back open for everyone on the waitlist on September 10th if not taken.

Cold weather Guidelines

  • Normal practice at or above -25C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

  • Practice shortened to 1.5 hour from -26C to -29C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

  • Practice shortened to a variable length (around 1h15) and not skiing (Race Office workout, CGC gym session, CGC track session, ..) from -30C to -31.9C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

  • Cancelled at or below -32, or any other time that the wax room is closed. This will be communicated by email.

  • Coach judgement will be used if there are other factors such as high winds, humidity, precipitation; email will go out if practice is being modified or cancelled.​​
