Adult Lesson Programs

We had such great response to our first year of Adult Lesson Programs that we’re back again with a great team of instructors for 2022-23!

These group lessons programs are a great way help you learn, refresh or refine your balance, propulsion and co-ordination skills to improve your ski technique—and meet other skiers at a similar level as you. Programs include drills and exercises to hone in on areas of improvement for your skiing, and skiing out on the WCCSC trails to put your new skills into action.

Registration will open November 1st at 12PM.

Here’s a description of the levels we are offering this season:

  • Super beginner (SB) – you are very new to cross-country skiing, or have never cross-country skied before. This group will be doing classic technique (the one where you ski in the tracks/grooves in the snow!). Note: participants should have a basic level of fitness, for example able to walk 2-3 km.

  • Experienced beginner (EBC) – you’ve been cruising around the beginner (green) ski trails for a season or so on classic skis. You can ski uphill and downhill on easy terrain and can ski to Harvey’s Hut and back, for instance. This group will work on refining and increasing classic skiing skills to gain more confidence to explore some intermediate (blue) trails.

  • Learn to skate (L2S) – you are a confident classic skier, but have little, or no, experience on skate skis (the short skis that glide gracefully on the groomed lane beside the classic ski tracks!). This group will work on skill-building exercises to help you learn the basics of skate skiing.

  • Learn to skate, progression (L2S2) – you know the basics of skate skiing and can ski on easy/beginner terrain (green-rated trail) including flat, rolling and uphill sections to Harvey’s Hut for example.

  • Intermediate classic (IC) – you are confident classic skiing on varied intermediate (blue) trails, both up and downhill.

  • Intermediate classic … but less confident skate (ICS-) – you are confident classic skiing on varied intermediate (blue) trails, both up and downhill, and you are learning to skate, but are less confident with skate technique. The sessions will be a mix of classic and skate techniques as conditions allow.

  • Intermediate classic & skate (ICS) – you are confident classic AND skate skiing on varied intermediate (blue) trails, both up and downhill. The sessions will be a mix of classic and skate techniques as conditions allow.

  • Intermediate skate (IS) – you are confident skate skiing on varied intermediate (blue) trails, both up and downhill, and are solid with one-skate and offset techniques.
