Valleyview Reservoir Update October 25 Upper Parking Lot and Olympic Trail Closed
The Valleyview Reservoir project has been delayed and will not be completed this year. Work will stop soon but the area will be closed off and there will not be any access or parking available in the area. The project should be completed next summer.
Skiers who have been used to parking at the Upper parking lot will not have that option for this winter. Parking is allowed on the Valleyview Reservoir Road, but there is very little space and trucks are going back and forth. Best option is to park in the Mt Mac parking lot or the Dog Trail parking lot. Remember to purchase a day pass first, if you are not already a member.
Olympic Trail will be closed between The Ramp and Twisted Adventure Trail. The trails are blocked off with snowfencing and signage provided by Ketza Construction. The Twisted Adventure trail will be open and accessible from Olympic Connector. Rocky Canyon trail will be accessible from Nighthawk and from The Ramp.
The expansion has been planned for a few years and the city has kept the ski club informed at each stage of the development. Plans to reroute Olympic Trail had been made last summer. Some changes in the design have meant that only a small portion of Olympic Trail will be affected by the development. The project contractors will assist with rerouting the trail when equipment is on site.
There will be a paved parking area and a public access trail to the Ramp and Rocky Canyon Trail when the construction is completed. At present it is not known if the access will be available during the construction of the reservoir.
The maps below show the realignment of Olympic Trail. There will be a fence around the reservoir that will follow the footprint outlined on the map.
