Copper to Best Chance, Upper Valley, Dog, Selwyn's Loop, Coyote, Lynx, Whisky Jack, World Cup 10K and the Nationals race courses were groomed overnight. Excellent for classic and skating.
The McIntyre Ascent has been groomed this morning and is very good for classic skiing. Skating is not recommended on the Ascent.
Since it is a training day for the athletes competing in the Haywood National the race courses are open to recreational skiers today.
Recreational skiers are welcome to ski during The Nationals, but should be aware that the race course will vary from day to day. Please contact the Ski Base for information on which trails are closed. Accessing the trails via the Dog Trail parking lot will be permitted every day. The Wax Room is open to recreational skiers at all times. All waxing for the Nationals is being done in the big waxing tent in the Canada Games Parking Lot.
Pedestrians must follow the designated path between the Canada Games Centre and Mt McIntyre Recreation Centre.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS- In icy conditions, control speed on all downhills or walk down when in doubt.
- If skiing alone, take a cell phone, or let somebody know your route and time of return.
- Do not count on assistance as there is not a scheduled trail patrol
- Take precautions in case of injury or equipment failure. Carry matches, a spare toque, jacket and food.
- There are emergency boxes located at Harvey’s Hut, Fireweed Hut and Sarah Steele Hut. The boxes contain warm clothing and fire lighting material.
