Stride and Glide Ski School
Stride and Glide Ski School operating from The Ski Base, offers ski lessons for children and adults.
A club Membership or a Day Pass is required to take lessons. A special day pass rate of $3 is charged for beginner lessons.
Ski Lessons
Kids Learn to Cross Country Ski
Getting comfortable on skis. Learning to play safely on hills and exploring the trails.
Ages: 5 to 11
Cost: 3 one hour lessons - $35 / (second child - friend/family - $25)
Dates: December 27, 28, 30
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Enrollment: Minimum 3 - Maximum 8
Rentals: $15 extra
Youth Learn to Cross Country Ski
For youths 12 to 15 who have not skied before. Learn to classic and have fun on the hills. Also an intro to skating.
Age: Ages 12 to 15
Cost: 3 lessons - 1 1/2 hour lessons - $50
Dates: December 27, 28,30
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Enrollment: Minimum 3 - Maximum 6
Rentals: $20 extra
Adult Learn to Cross Country Ski - ADDED TO SCHEDULE!
For skiers 15 yrs and older who have never skied before. Or for those who skied once or twice and would like to learn the basics. Lessons include: how to wax, how to select equipment, diagonal stride, herringbone (uphill) and snowplow to control speed. Rentals are available.
Age: Ages 15 years and older
Cost: 3 lessons - 1 1/2 hour lessons - $50
Dates: January 18, 25 and February 1
Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Enrollment: Minimum 4 - Maximum 8
Rentals: $25 extra
Adult Private Lessons
Cost: Individual - $35 (1 hour session)
Groups of 2 - $25 each (1 hour session)
3 or more $20 each (1 hour session)
Dates: By arrangement, weekdays preferred
Video Analysis
A great way to improve your technique! A ½ hr session for $25 that includes video, private analysis and on snow follow-up if needed. Book an appointment at the Ski Base Service Centre or call (867) 668-4477.
Ski Clinics
Learn to Skate Clinic
For experienced skiers who want to try skating. Waxing, equipment evaluation and selection, basic skating skills
Cost: $30 for 1 1/2 hour lesson / $15 extra to rent skating equipment
Dates: January 31 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Enrollment: Minimum 2
Classic Skills Clinic
For skiers who want to improve their classic technique (diagonal stride and double pole - uphill and downhill techniques).
Cost: 2 lessons – 11/2 hours each - $40 per person
Dates: January 17 or 24 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Minimum Enrollment: 3
Snowshoeing Clinic and Full Moon Tour
Do you want to explore the Mt Mac trails, but don't want to ski? Snowshoeing is an excellent way to enjoy being outdoors in winter and almost as easy as walking. It's easier to learn than cross country skiing but still good for health, fitness and getting fresh air. This clinic will introduce you to the Whitehorse Nordic Centre Wax Room and surrounding trails and the joy of being outside in the moon light.
Cost: Two hour clinic and tour for beginners- $30 per person (includes snowshoes, lesson and day pass)
Groups of two or more - $25 per person plus day pass/rental.
Club members $15
Date: February 8, 2012 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Or other times by arrangement.
Noon Hour Skills Clinics
Lunch hour sessions for skiers who have experience.
Time: All sessions run from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.
Cost: $10 per session. Must book day before.
Sessions:
January 9 - Weight Shift - classic
January 13 - Marathon skate (1/2 skate) a great way to practice skate skills when conditions are difficult or even when on classic skis
January 16 - Balance drills classic or skate
January 20 - Power drills - skate
CANSI - Pre Level 1 Clinic
For skiers who are thinking of being instructors and would like to know if they meet the CANSI Level I standards for technique. This clinic will help you to evaluate your own technique and provide the skills needed to pass the Level I certification.
Being a certified Level 1 instructor will qualify you for CANSI insurance coverage, which is required for giving private lessons at the Whitehorse Nordic Centre.
Dates:
January 30, 2012 - 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon - for teachers who are providing instruction for their school - others welcome to attend

April 7, 2012 - 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. - open to all
