NorthwesTel Yukon Loppet
… A great annual event with distances for all abilities! The 29th Annual Northwestel Yukon Loppet is set for March 17, 2012.
The NorthwesTel Yukon Loppet is a great opportunity for cross country skiers to have fun and enjoy the beautiful, Yukon outdoors. The Loppet offers the fabulously groomed tracks of the Whitehorse Nordic Centre. They are suitable for novice, intermediate or experienced skiers.
There are four distances: 30, 20, 7.5 or 3 km. All courses offer challenges and great views of the mountains around Whitehorse.
There are four mass starts beginning at 11:00 AM with the 30K skiers, 11:05 for the 20K skiers, 11:10 for the 7.5K skiers, and 11:15 for the 3K skiers.
There is one feed station located at Crossroads, near Harvey's Hut that is situated to provide feeds for all skiers except the 3K category. The Crossroads feed station is at the 1/2 way point for the 7.5K skiers. For 20K skiers the feed station is at the 3 km, 12km and 17km mark. For 30K skiers the feed station is at the 3K, 12K and 27K point. Skiers on the 30K course should have their own refreshments as there won't be a feed station at Mordor.
There will be a post Loppet lunch in the Grey Mountain Room at Mt McIntyre Recreation Centre.
Do You Want To Volunteer?
Would you like to help organize the 2012 Loppet? We are looking for a few volunteers to help with this year's event. We are looking for bib collectors and some volunteers to work at the feed station at Harvey's Hut. Volunteers will receive the annual keepsake souvenir and a banquet ticket. Please contact the ski club if you can lend a hand. Most volunteer tasks allow for participation in the Loppet as well.
