Whitehorse Nordic Centre

The Whitehorse Nordic Centre is operated by the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club and offers 85 kilometers of groomed trails for classic and skate skiing and snowshoeing.  An additional 20 kilometers of ungroomed single track are available for snowshoeing and ski touring. The trail system, combined with a great indoor facility, varied programs and affordable fees makes the Whitehorse Nordic Centre a popular choice for winter recreation. The trails are open year round and are equally popular in summer for mountain biking, hiking, running and walking.

Harvey's Hut Rebuild

An update for those of you who have been sending us your words of condolences and your lovely memories of the hut, and for those of your graciously offering to help support a rebuild.

We have started a GoFundMe campaign! Please consider supporting the site cleanup and rebuild of our Beloved Hut. If you are interested in donating your time and or efforts to the rebuild, please stay tuned as we will be posting a Hut Rebuild group and future details!

Though we don't expect to break ground on the new construction until spring, we need to prepare the site and set up a temporary shelter as soon as possible.

Northwestel Jackrabbit/Bunny Program Needs Volunteers!

The Jackrabbit/Bunnies 2016/17 Program at Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club needs volunteer leaders, and helpers. Cross Country Canada guidelines state that 2 adults are needed for every 4 Bunnies (age 4-5yr), and 2 adults are needed for every 6 Jackrabbits (age 6-9yr). The more volunteer leaders and helpers we have, the more kids we can have in this popular program.

Leaders and helpers will receive perks from WCCSC including free warm drinks on program days, free day-pass on program days, and a free JR/B ski toque or buff!  The children of volunteers will have guaranteed spot to register in the program. Registration for the JR/B participants will open online on October 5th - a link on the WCCSC website will be provided closer to that date.

No coaching experience is needed to volunteer as a leader or helper. You do not have to perfect technique yourself to coach these kids! If you can put skis on, and you love cross country skiing you can volunteer with this program!

Cross Country Canada guidelines state that leaders and helpers must have taken the Intro to Community Coaching (ICC) or Community Coaching (CC) courses. These courses will be offered twice in Whitehorse, (Nov 18-20 and Nov 25-27) and will be a great opportunity to learn everything you need to know about coaching the next generation of lifelong skiers! JR/B leaders and helpers course fees will be fully paid for by WCCSC. Click here to register for ICC/CC courses. Volunteer coaches will also have access to great resources outlining goals of the program, activities and games!

Volunteers must also have a criminal record check from the RCMP.  For more information, visit the RCMP website here.

It is important to the development of the skiers skills that we have consistent coaching. Ideally the same leaders/helpers working with each group week-to-week. Therefore we ask for a commitment to coaching all 9 sessions. However, there will inevitably be days when the regular leader/helper can not attend and hence, there is also an opportunity for spare coaches to volunteer, on an on-call basis.

Please sign up to volunteer by clicking HERE! and help us get kids a great start on skis.

Please contact Kristenn at jb.xcskiwhitehorse@gmail.com if you have any questions, thank-you!

p.s. each week we need parent volunteers to help with the après-ski snack, please sign-up here if you already know which day you'd like to help with that!

The registration for this popular program will start on October 11. More details to come.

Lynx Squad Registration is now open

Lynx Squad is a ski program for skiers aged 8-13 wishing to improve their ski skills and fitness in a group of like minded youth. You can find registration information here.
