Air North Challenge 2012

The Air North Challenge is a recreational event that encourages skiers and snowshoers to explore and ski all or some of the Whitehorse Nordic Centre trails (also known as the Mt Mac trails).  This year's Challenge will vary depending on the Category. 

When

February 1 to February 29, 2012

Where

Whitehorse Nordic Centre trails.

Registration

Register at The Ski Base at the ski chalet (Mt McIntyre Recreation Centre) during regular business hours. 

Registration begins January 26, 2012 and closes Saturday February 25, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.

Entry Fee   $10  (over 12 years old)  $5  (12 and younger)

Cash, cheque, debit or credit card accepted.

Proceeds will go to the Wax Room expansion fund.

Categories

Earning your Wings -  for novice adults or anybody 12 years of age or younger.  A novice adult is anybody over 18 who is new to skiing this year.
Includes all trails marked in ‘green’ on the WCCSC trail map.  "Green" trails beyond Harvey’s Hut are optional.  

Bush Pilot Challenge
For experienced skiers who want to ski all of the groomed trails on the WCCSC trail map, including the Copper Haul Road, McIntyre Ascent/ Descent and Sarah Steele loops. 

‘737’ Challenge
Ski all the groomed trails in two days. Ski all of the trails on the WCCSC map, including the Copper Haul Road, McIntyre Ascent/Descent and Sarah Steele loops.

‘748’ Challenge
‘748’ Challenge is for intermediate level skiers.  Ski all of the green and blue trails on the WCCSC trail map.

Snowshoe Challenge
A new category for snowshoers.  Explore the new single track trails as well as the groomed ski trails.  Snowshoe all of the blue, green and single track trails on the front side of the WCCSC map.

 

Rules

1. This is a self monitored event.  A map will be provided for each participant, which will be kept at the Ski Base.  Skiers will record the trails skied after each outing.  Use a highlighter pen to trace the trails.

2. Only trails that are skied during February will be eligible for the Challenge.

3. Participants in the ‘737’ Category must check in at the Ski Base at least once during the two day period that they are completing the Challenge.  All green, blue and black trails that are normally groomed, must be skied whether they are groomed or not.  Completed map must be handed in at end of second day.

4. To be eligible for the Grand Prize Draw, the Challenge must be completed in the Category that you registered in.

5. All participants will be eligible for the other draw prizes if they have completed a portion of the Challenge.

6. All trails that are normally groomed, are included in the Challenge.  However, not all trails will be groomed at all times.

Prizes

FIRST PRIZE    Trip for two on Air North to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton.

SECOND PRIZE    Adult membership for the 2012/2013 season.

THIRD PRIZE    Junior membership for the 2012/2013 season.

Merchandise prizes from The Ski Base and Air North the Yukon's Airline.

February is Challenge month, brought to you by Air North, the Yukon's Airline.  Ski the trails and earn a chance to win a super Air North flight.  How can you go wrong?  Lots of time to make your challenge - Earn your wings, be be a Bush Pilot or take the 737 or 748 Challenge.  New this year:  Snowshoe Challenge!
